![]() ![]() Ballroom Marfa is thrilled to be holding a solo exhibition by one of the foremost painters of our times, the Scottish-native, Trinidadian resident, Peter Doig. Over seventy of Doig’s film posters from the Rheingold and Ringier collections will be included, as well as recent posters from the artist’s personal collection. Doig has created each of these works for his ongoing STUDIOFILMCLUB, co-founded in 2003 with Trinidadian artist-peer, Che Lovelace. In 2004 Doig’s film posters were included as part of his Metropolitain exhibition at Kestnergesellschaft, Hannover, and in 2005 the Museum Ludwig, Köln and Kunsthalle Zürich devoted major exhibitions entirely to the STUDIOFILMCLUB works. In 2006 a small selection of Doig’s posters were included in the Whitney Biennial, which was this year named after the film that inspired Doig’s work, Day for Night. Ballroom Marfa’s show will be the most comprehensive exhibition of the artist’s STUDIOFILMCLUB posters to date to be presented in the United States, and will showcase over eighty works in total dating from 2003 through 2006. In conjunction with Peter Doig: STUDIOFILMCLUB 2003 – 2006, Berlin and Hamburg based artist Jonathan Meese will do a special performance at BALLROOM Marfa on the evening of Thursday 28 September 2006. Meese is renowned for his paintings and sculptures, and his practice at times combines these along with photography, installation and performance in an all-encompassing performance theatre. Since the late 1990s Meese has had over forty solo exhibitions across Europe, the United States, and Asia. Recently he has also been included in the SITE Santa Fe Biennial: Still Points of a Turning World, Santa Fe (2006), Dionysiac, Centres Georges Pompidou, Paris (2005) and The Triumph of Painting. Part II, The Saatchi Gallery, London (2005). Friday night, 29 September, 2006, Ballroom Marfa will play host to rock+electro+dance superstars Ghostland Observatory. The Pippy-Longstocking-ponytailed, tight-white-pant-wearing singer, who sings like Freddie Mercury meets Ric Ocasek, will be backed up by his mad-scientist keyboard-playing drummer counterpart to enchant and amaze all under the starry skies of Marfa. Peter Doig: STUDIOFILMCLUB 2003 - 2006 has been made possible by the generous assistance of the Brown Foundation, Houston, the Ringier Collection, Switzerland, Sammlung Rheingold, Düsseldorf, Contemporary Fine Arts, Berlin, Michael Werner Gallery, New York, Ballroom Members, and The Marfa Chamber of Commerce.
