“The political impulse is fine but moot. Art has political consequences, which is to say, it reorganizes society and creates constituencies of people around it. Miles Davis creates a constituency. Andy Warhol creates a constituency, and any object or occasion that organizes people in terms of what they want is a political constituency.”
— Art critic Dave Hickey, in an interview with The Believer
Relevant to our next visual arts exhibition, Carbon 13, and the Marfa Dialogues symposium, both of which address climate change, sustainability and art as a transforming media. Read more of the interview here. –NI

Just wanted to say a big thanks to everyone who came out to the Dirty Projectors + Wye Oak show on Tuesday. Best bands, best touring crew (Matt, Megan, Tim, Max, Andy, Mike), best Ballroom crew (Gory, Rob, Chris, Cory, Adeline, Jessica, JD, Hilary, Rosa, Rocky), best audience, best night. Was such a treat to hear Dirty Projectors tear up “Offspring Are Blank,” and to finally hear “Civilian” live. Dang sons. We’re waiting on show photos, but in the meantime, check out Alex Marks‘s Polaroids portraits of the bands. I literally (LITERALLY) cannot say enough good things about this project. See the whole thing scattershot here (some day we will make a book). –NI
