Chicago Underground Duo

9 February 2010

Tuesday 9 February 2010
Masonic Lodge
Doors at 8:00, Concert at 8:30

Chicago Underground Duo is a critically acclaimed avant-garde jazz duo consisting of cornetist Rob Mazurek (cornet, electronics, piano) and Chad Taylor (percussion, electronics, vibes, guitar), both stalwarts on the Chicago Jazz front. The duo is known for powerful grooves along with ambient sound structures, folk song simplicity and polyrhythmic bursts of energy with lyrical melodic vignettes. Chicago Underground Duo is part of a new generation of music improvisers that emerged in Chicago in the 1990s. Their performances are based on both notated compositions, composed by both artists, and on pure improvisation.

The Chicago Underground Duo performance in Marfa is made possible through the generous support of The Texas Commission on the Arts, Jeff Fort, and Ballroom Marfa’s Front Row Members.

In-kind support for this concert generously provided by Tom Jacobs and Vilis Inde of MARFA/VACATION RENTALS.
