Ballroom Marfa’s DJ Camp is back – June 29-July 3, 2015!

This year, we’ve joined forces with Camp Summer Shake Up, offered by Marfa ISD in collaboration with other community partner organizations. The summer camp is free with breakfast, lunch, and transportation provided. All students are invited to participate.

Camp will begin each day at the MISD cafeteria at 8:35 am with free breakfast provided. School buses will transport students to their chosen activities for the morning, returning them to the school for lunch around 12:00 noon.

For this year’s DJ Camp, DJ Bigface returns to the Big Bend to offer essential guidance in real-live party-rocking skills. Bigface served as the teacher at the inaugural Ballroom DJ Camp in 2010, sharing the knowledge he’s gained through years as a music educator at Austin’s DJ Dojo. Bigface is also known for ambitious parties helmed by DJs and funk bands, and featuring breakdancers, “fire tamers” and acrobats.

Students will learn directly on DJ equipment and experiment with mixing songs and sampling music. The classes are designed to engage the imagination of students from all musical backgrounds, and throughout the week DJ Bigface will highlight other aspects of DJ culture, such as dance and visual art. While getting practical experience on the equipment is a core component of the camp, Bigface will also present DJing as an art form with a rich culture and history, with portions of each class covering the history of the DJ and basic music theory.

Classes will take place at The Capri, Monday, June 29 through Thursday, July 2 from 9am – 12pm. The camp concludes with a free public performance by the student DJs at Padre’s Marfa on Friday, July 3 beginning at 6pm.

For more information about the program, please contact Coach Amy White at MISD at 432.729.4252.
