DJ Camp is part of MISD’s Camp Summer Shakeup

DJ Camp is back once again and Ballroom is joining forces with Summer Shake-Up, offered by Marfa ISD in collaboration with other community partner organizations. DJ Camp is free with breakfast, lunch, and transportation to/from MISD provided. Students, grades five through eight, are invited to participate.

For our ninth annual DJ Camp, Ballroom Marfa welcomes Natalia Rocafuerte a.k.a DJ Dada to the Big Bend to offer instruction on real-live party-rocking skills. Dada has been invited this year to run the DJ Camp, sharing the knowledge she has gained through years as part of the Austin chapter of the Chulita Vinyl Club.

Students will learn directly on DJ equipment and experiment with mixing songs and sampling music. The classes are designed to engage the imagination of students from all musical backgrounds. While gaining practical experience with music technology and DJ equipment is a core component of the camp, Dada will also present DJing as an art form with a rich culture and history, with portions of each class covering the history of DJ culture, music collectives and basic music theory.

DJ Camp is made possible by the generous support of the Brown Foundation, Inc., Texas Commission on the Arts, National Endowment for the Arts, Ballroom Marfa Board of Trustees and Ballroom Marfa members.
