Ballroom Marfa presented Fire into Music on October 8, 2004—a performance featuring Jemeel Moondoc, Steve Swell, William Parker, and Hamid Drake. While reminiscent of John Coltrane, Cecil Taylor, Ornette Coleman, and the Art Ensemble of Chicago, the quartet’s sound is shaped by their ever-changing contemporary creative visions. Spanning the sonic spectrum from delicate to devastating, their shows appeal at once to primitive and futuristic sensibilities.
