Mariachi Las Alteñas
Mariachi Las Alteñas performed at the Capri as part of the opening weekend of Autobody, Ballrooms 2011 exhibition that explored the mythology of the American automobile in industry and art. Considered Texas’ finest all-female mariachi, Mariachi Las Alteñas have been captivating audiences since 2002. Hailing from San Antonio, these 10 women are dedicated to promoting the majesty of mariachi music, as evidenced by their mantra: “Tradition. Passion. Excellence.”
Known for their exceptional stage presence and harmonies, Mariachi Las Alteñas has performed all over the country — most notably in December 2009 when they performed on Good Morning America. Las Alteñas have also performed at the Go Tejano Mariachi Invitational, where they won first place for “Best Mariachi” in both 2004 and 2005. In 2010 they returned to compete and reclaimed the title.
In a predominantly male industry, this all-female mariachi has made its mark. Las Alteñas’ success goes beyond their music; they inspire audiences with joy and emotion.
